Tanya Atwater is an American geophysicist and marine geologist who specializes in plate tectonics, in particular the evolution of the San Andreas fault plate boundary. Her educational work has focused on the creation of computer-animated multimedia products and presentations depicting plate tectonic histories.

Atwater received her B.A. in Geophysics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1965 and is a ‘72 University of California, San Diego Alumna, holding a Ph.D. (1972) in Marine Geophysics from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She is presently a professor of geological sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Director of the UCSB Educational Multimedia Visualization Center. Ben Ncube

Filed under: Search Engine Optimization — admin @ 2:18 pm

Lieutenant Colonel Ben Ncube is the spokesman for the Zimbabwe National Army.

Mercenaries attempted to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea by departing in a plane from Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe National Army seized the plane on March 9, 2004 before it took off and arrested the mercenaries. Asked by the press whether the army had been put on full alert, Ncube said he regarded the incident as “normal procedure.”

On June 8, 2007 the Zimbabwean government announced that Ncube is believed to have been a leader of a group of military officials who plotted to overthrow the Mugabe administration. He is under house arrest in Harare.

Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League
OPJHL
Head Office Cambridge, Ontario
Operated 1974-2007

The Golden Horseshoe Junior Hockey League was a junior ice hockey league in Ontario, Canada, sanctioned by the Ontario Hockey Association from 1974 until 2007. As of 2007, the league has become a division of the newly formed Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League. For the 2007-08 season, the GHL, with the Mid-Western Junior Hockey League and Western Ontario Hockey League, will operate as three divisional leagues in one league with separate but cooperative governing bodies. In 2008, all three league will be dissolved and become divisions in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League under one governing body. In essence, this will by the GHL’s final season.

History

The year 1974 saw the founding of the Golden Horseshoe Junior B Hockey League. The league consisted mostly of “inner ring” teams from the Niagara District Junior B Hockey League. The “outer ring” teams maintained with the Niagara league. In 1978, the Golden Horseshoe league jumped from six to nine teams by swallowing the majority of the short-lived Southwestern Junior B Hockey League. A season later, the Niagara District league folded and their final champion, the Fort Erie Meteors, came aboard as the GHL’s tenth team.

In 1995-96 and 1996-97, the GHL played an interlocking schedule with USA Hockey’s North Eastern Junior Hockey League. In 1997-98, the league even allowed the expansion of one of the NEJHL’s teams, the Rochester Jr. Americans for a single season.

In 2005-06, the GHL allowed another former NEJHL team, the Wheatfield Jr. Blades, to participate in the league.

In 2007, the league merged with the Western Ontario Hockey League and the Mid-Western Junior Hockey League to form the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

Reinmar von Zweter

Filed under: Search Engine Optimization — admin @ 3:03 am

Reinmar von Zweter (Codex Manesse, 14th century).

Reinmar von Zweter (Codex Manesse, 14th century).

Reinmar von Zweter (born around 1200 in Zeutern, today known as Ubstadt-Weiher, Germany; died after 1248) was a Middle High German poet of Spruchdichtung, presumably of knighted ancestry.

Life

According to his writings, he was “born at the Rhine and grown up in Austria”. He started his work as a poet around 1227 in Austria. Living under Leopold IV of Austria and Frederick II, Duke of Austria, his writings indicate a stay in Bohemia under Venceslas I of Bohemia. Apparently, Reinmar was continuously on the move after 1241. His last confirmed writing dates to 1248.

Cyathea camerooniana is a species of tree fern native to Sierra Leone, Cameroon, northern Angola and western Uganda, where it grows in montane forest at an altitude of 900-1200 m. The trunk is erect and 2-3 m tall. Fronds are pinnate and 2-3 m long. The rachis ranges in colour from dark to pale and has some hairs on the underside. The stipe is dark and is covered with scales throughout. Where scales have fallen, small warts are present. The scales are glossy brown and have a thin, dull edge. Sori occur at the forks of veins and are covered by thin indusia, which range in shape from cup- to saucer-like.

C. camerooniana is a highly variable species. Several varieties have been described based on minor frond and indusial differences. C. c. var. ugandensis is the only representative of this species present in Uganda and is the most isolated variety.

Die Hard Arcade

Die Hard Arcade
Developer(s) AM1 / Sega Technical Institute
Publisher(s) Sega
Platform(s) Arcade, Sega Saturn
Release date(s) 1996 (Arcade)
April 8, 1997 (Sega Saturn)
Genre(s) Beat ‘em up
Mode(s) Single player, multiplayer
Rating(s) ESRB: Teen (T)
Media CD-ROM

Die Hard Arcade is the licensed American/European version of the Japanese videogame Dynamite Deka. The game is a beat ‘em up with loose ties to the Die Hard movie series of the same name.

However, other than the title, the building and the fact that the hero (named Bruno Delinger in the Japanese) resembled John McClane, the game and the movie have little to do with each other (in fact, the license was purchased when the game was essentially complete for the American and European releases). It is a 1 - 2 player game in which the male and/or female characters fight through action-packed levels to save the president’s daughter from a band of terrorists.

Gameplay

The game is played by fighting your way through waves of enemies, using your fists, feet, and a ludicrous variety of weapons. You progress through the requisite enemies and bosses with cutscenes interspersed into the action. Various cutscenes in the game contain Quick Time Event sequences, in which the player must press a particular button within a short time limit to alter the impending scene e.g., defeating an enemy or group of enemies in the sequence so that the player will not have to then engage them in combat.

Development

It was created by Sega, using a team up of the successful Japanese AM1 (Arcade Machine 1, also known as WoW Entertainment) group and US-based Sega Technical Institute (STI), which developed in collaboration with Sonic Team some of the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games following the original, to create this game. AM1 provided the engineering, and some of the design and art, and STI provided art, design and animation. Incidentally, Die Hard Arcade was also the final game developed by STI before the studio was dissolved.

The game was created simultaneously for the Titan Arcade system and Sega Saturn but the home version was released later.

Die Hard Arcade also has an unlicensed sequel that was released in arcades and Dreamcast titled Dynamite Cop (aka “Dynamite Deka 2” in Japan) released in 1998.
